چکیده

The evolutionary history of species may be described by a phylogenetic tree whose topology captures ancestral relationships among the species, and whose branch lengths denote evolution times. For a fixed topology and an assumed probabilistic model of nucleotide substitution, we show that the likelihood of a given tree is a d.c. (difference of convex) function of the branch lengths, hence maximum likelihood estimates (of the branch lengths) may be obtained by solving an appropriate d.c. program. Such a formulation is amenable to global optimization techniques, in contrast with existing methods and software codes which could potentially produce only locally optimal solutions. We present the formulation of this optimization problem, its solution via an outer approximation cutting plane algorithm, and illustrative numerical results on small genetic data sets.

HGT turbulence

Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) often leads to phylogenetic incongruence. When "duplicative HGT" introduces a second copy of a pre-existing gene, the two copies may then engage in gene conversion, leading to phylogenetically mosiac genes. When duplicative HGT is followed by differential gene conversion among descendant lineages, as under the DH-DC model, phylogenetic analysis is further complica...

Analysis of New Transformerless dc-dc Converter With High Voltage Gain

In some industries applications such as fuel cells, we must use a high voltage gain dc-dc converters for increasing voltage, but, the conventional converters cannot provide the high voltage gain with increasing duty cycle and the converters efficiency is limited by the equivalent series resistances. For this reason, in this paper, a single switch transformerless high step-up dc-dc converter wit...

DC programming and DCA for enhancing physical layer security via cooperative jamming

The explosive development of computational tools these days is threatening security of cryptographic algorithms those are regarded as primary traditional methods for ensuring information security. Physical layer security approach is introduced as a method for both improving confidentiality of the secret key distribution in cryptography and enabling the data transmission without relaying on high...

Optimization of DC-DC Converters via Geometric Programming

The paper presents a new methodology for optimizing the design of DC-DC converters. The magnitudes that we take into account are efficiency, ripples, bandwidth, and RHP zero placement. We apply a geometric programming approach, because the variables are positives and the constraints can be expressed in a posynomial form. This approach has all the advantages of convex optimization. We apply the ...
